Day 2- Trip to Nicosia
After breakfast, we visited the European Union House for a lecture on the EU and SDGs. I thought it was interesting that the speaker mentioned that the Turkish-occupied zone does not count towards the UN SDG progress. After the presentation, we received goodies like EU-themed bags, hats, fans, and USB cards. Our next stop was the archaeological museum, featuring fascinating statues of Greek gods and goddesses, as well as ancient jewelry. After, we shopped for authentic handmade souvenirs and enjoyed lunch at To Anamma, a restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area. I had never seen anything like this in the U.S. The aesthetics in Cyprus are so different from America. I really loved exploring the city. there were triangle cloths hung from tall buildings to create shade which I thought was clever and cool! The afternoon was free for exploration; my roommates and I got gelato and passed by a protest area with signs about human rights violations in Southern Cyprus. I bought baklava, jewelry, and perfume. We then slept to rest for Saturday’s activities.
